2024 Fantasy Outlook
Brooks was the first running back selected in the 2024 NFL Draft (46th overall), and with such a substantial investment the Panthers clearly mean to give Brooks a starting role at some point. The question is whether that time is already here, or whether it might more so be in 2025 or beyond as Brooks returns from a Nov. 11 ACL tear. Brooks also won't turn 21 until July 21, so he'll be particularly young for his draft class. Between the injury recovery and the potential need for development time, Brooks might not fully displace incumbent starter Chuba Hubbard within the 2024 season. Hubbard ran for more yardage and touchdowns in a 13-game span at Oklahoma State than Brooks did in three years at Texas, so Hubbard might not be a pushover. Where Brooks has a clear advantage over Hubbard would be on passing downs, so Brooks should quickly emerge as the team's preferred pass catcher at running back even if Hubbard remains the leading runner for 2024. On track for camp
Brooks (knee) remains on track to be cleared for training camp, Mike Kaye of The Charlotte Observer reports.
ANALYSIS
Brooks said the ACL tear he suffered in November didn't come with any damage to other ligaments -- a factor that likely contributed to the Panthers' confidence making him the first back selected in the 2024 NFL Draft (46th overall). He's begun running and plans to resume cutting soon, with the intention of participating at the start of training camp in late July, shortly after his 21st birthday. Brooks didn't play much at Texas until Bijan Robinson left for the NFL, but once he got his chance the results were impressive, with Brooks recording 1,139 rushing yards and 286 receiving yards in 11 games last season. In Carolina, he joins a backfield with veterans Chuba Hubbard and Miles Sanders, though it isn't clear if the latter will have a role after his poor showing last season.

Likely to be eased into role
Brooks is likely to be eased into the lead-back role for Carolina in 2024, David Newton of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
The Panthers traded up for Brooks in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft despite already having both Chuba Hubbard and Miles Sanders in their backfield. However, that depth will allow Brooks -- recovering from a torn ACL -- to slowly take over the majority of carries. Hubbard is instead expected to shoulder most of the workload initially.
