Earns third save
Beeks allowed two hits in a scoreless inning to earn the save in Sunday's 3-1 win over the Rangers. He did not strike out or walk a batter.
ANALYSIS
Beeks erased the first hit by inducing a double play, and he was able to finish the outing without too much danger. Unlike his save Friday, Beeks appeared to be the first option for closing -- Justin Lawrence hadn't pitched since Friday and was not used Saturday or earlier in Sunday's game. Through 19.1 innings this season, Beeks has a 2.33 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 14:8 K:BB with three saves, a blown save, one hold and a 2-2 record. The southpaw's lack of dominance makes him an outlier in terms of a closer profile, but it looks like he'll get his chances anyway in the Rockies' committee situation after starting the year well.

Could nab final pitcher spot
Beeks is a candidate to secure the final pitcher spot on the Rays' Opening Day roster due to his ability to work long relief, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The young southpaw operated as a starter throughout his minor-league career, but he's served as a reliever for the bulk of the 47 appearances he's logged at the major-league level. Beeks frequently worked multiple innings out of the bullpen for the Rays last season, and he was enjoying a solid spring prior to Grapefruit League play being suspended. Therefore, the 26-year-old is a strong candidate to garner the spot, especially with the Rays planning to still deploy an opener followed by a bulk reliever at times during the coming campaign.

2018
Beeks made a full recovery from his late 2020 Tommy John Surgery and pitcked up right where he left off as both an opener as well as a bulk reliever in the middle innings. The changeup, which was rebuilt after his acquisition from Boston in 2018, is now his primary weapon and gives him three pitches with at least a 25% whiff rate on the season. His approach is simple as hitters are either seeing a zigzagging fastball or a fading changeup as Beeks lacks an effective pitch with a wrinkle. If reverse splits were a real thing, Beeks would be a poster child for that because that fastball/changeup approach allows him too be more effective against righties than the traditional lefty/lefty strength one would imagine he would have. Until he can figure out some type of breaking ball, his future is unlikely to change as he is just as likely to pitch the first inning of a game as he a late inning if the lineup is stacked with righties. His volume can help you with ratios and somewhat in strikeouts, but his utilization limits his abilities to earn decisions.
