2024 Fantasy Outlook
White has not appeared in an MLB game since 2021, as the former first-round pick has dealt with a plethora of injuries, including surgery on his left hip this past May. The 27-year-old was signed to an MLB deal before he had played in the majors, and while he has shown elite defense in his limited time at the highest level, his career .544 OPS in 306 plate appearances tells the story of how much he's struggled at the plate. An inability to make contact has been the biggest culprit, as he's struck out in 37.6 percent of his plate appearances in his time with Seattle. White is expected to be ready for the start of spring training with his new team, the Angels, after several offseason transactions that included him losing his 40-man roster spot. Read Past Outlooks

Cleared to resume activities
White has been cleared to resume limited activities Monday after experiencing soreness in his surgically repaired left hip Saturday, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
White -- who hasn't appeared in a major-league game since 2021 -- had surgery on the hip last May. The first baseman was acquired from Atlanta via trade earlier this offseason and is in camp as a non-roster invitee.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Slated for extended absence
White is set to undergo another hip procedure, and the estimated recovery time is around three months, according to Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times.
ANALYSIS
White is already on the 60-day injured list, so no roster move will be needed here. The first baseman has endured a rough patch with injuries of late, suffering an adductor strain just two games into his Triple-A season and also missing time in 2021 due to the first surgery he underwent on his left hip. He also missed most of the 2022 season due to a sports hernia surgery. The initial recovery timetable puts him on track to return at some point in August.

It's not necessarily an embellishment to label 2022 as a potential make-or-break year for White with respect to his future in Seattle, as the once-highly-regarded prospect has produced a .165/.235/.308 slash line and massive 37.6 percent strikeout rate over his first 306 big-league plate appearances across 84 games. The struggles could be a byproduct of White initially making his majors debut in 2020 with just 18 plate appearances at the Triple-A level under his belt, but his .439 OPS through 104 PAs with the Mariners in 2021 seem to indicate there hasn't been much improvement with additional reps against big-league arms. Health hasn't exactly been on his side, either; White underwent season-ending hip surgery last summer and then suffered a sports hernia in spring training that also required him to go under the knife and is projected to keep him out for at least the first two months of the season. White has an above-average glove, but with the emerging Ty France laying down significant roots at first base, the former is likely to find consistent playing time hard to come by whenever he's healthy enough to make his season debut.

Out at least three months
Mariners general manager Justin Hollander said he expects White to miss a minimum of three months after undergoing surgery on his left hip May 22, MLB.com reports. "The surgery released the tendon that was impinging his joint and also cleaned up significant scar tissue in and around the hip area," Hollander said. "It will obviously be a lengthy rehab process. I would say three months minimum for him to be back out on a baseball field in some sort of rehab-type activity."
