2024 Fantasy Outlook
Bielak made 13 starts for Houston in 2023 compiling a 3.83 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 6.97 K/9 in 80 innings pitched. The 27-year-old filled in admirably for an injury plagued Astros rotation for most of the season before the wheels fell off in late July and he was demoted to Triple-A. With Houston's top four in the rotation set, Bielak is on the outside looking in at a rotation spot with J.P. France and Jose Urquidy likely ahead of him in the pecking order. The righty's best path to a roster spot could be as a long reliever out of the bullpen meaning he'll likely be limited to a streaming role for fantasy managers unless a rotation spot opens up in season. The Astros designated Bielak for assignment Saturday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The move comes with Houston reinstating right-hander Cristian Javier (neck) off the 15-day injured list. Bielak made the Opening Day roster due to multiple injuries to the Astros' pitching staff and he appeared in 10 games out of the bullpen, posting a 5.71 ERA and 1.76 WHIP over 17.1 innings. Bielak is out of minor-league options, but he could draw interest from teams looking for right-handed depth in the bullpen.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Joining Astros soon?
Bielak didn't make his scheduled start Saturday for Triple-A Sugar Land, which could indicate the Astros are considering him to start soon, reports Chandler Rome of The Athletic.
ANALYSIS
The 27-year-old has a 4.37 ERA across 47.1 big-league innings this year and was demoted to Sugar Land in mid-June. The Astros demoted Ronel Blanco and had Shawn Dubin start Sunday, which leaves the team with a question mark in its rotation with a week before the beginning of the All-Star break, especially with Framber Valdez nursing an ankle issue. It's likely only a matter of time before Bielak receives another shot with Houston this season, and that opportunity could come sooner rather than later.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2021
2020
There are two competing theories in life; either do one thing very well, or do many things decently. Bielak falls in the latter category as he does not have any one particularly great skill or pitch, but he can throw a handful of pitches and work the zone with regularity. As a rookie in 2020, Bielak took his lumps as he struggled to consistently locate his pitches, resulting in a combination of too many walks, hittable pitches and home runs. Dean Wormer told Blutarsky that fat, drunk and stupid was a hell of a way to go through life, and would tell Bielak lots of walks, hits and homers is not the way to succeed in baseball. Blutarsky eventually went on to become President of the United States, so Bielak may eventually win the Cy Young and MVP in the same season. That just isn't happening in 2021.
