2024 Fantasy Outlook
Sabol went from the Pirates to the Reds to the Giants during Rule 5 Draft day in December of 2022, ultimately landing in a place where his ability to both catch and play the outfield could be put to great use. He made 46 starts behind the plate, essentially subbing in for Joey Bart and Patrick Bailey, and he also made 32 starts in left field as the San Francisco outfield depth chart fell into disarray. In the end, though, Sabol did not show enough offensively to carve out an increased role for 2024. Bailey is still around, as his newcomer at catcher Tom Murphy, and the blockbuster addition of Korean center fielder Jung Hoo Lee leaves the Giants with too many outfield mouths to feed. Sabol can mostly be ignored in standard fantasy leagues as he enters his age-26 campaign. Read Past Outlooks

Getting steady playing time
Sabol will serve as the Giants' designated hitter and No. 7 hitter in Thursday's game against the Rockies, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Sabol will pick up his fourth start in five games, though he'll be filling a non-defensive role Thursday after each of the prior three starts came at catcher. The 26-year-old should continue to see the bulk of the action behind the dish while both Patrick Bailey (concussion) and Tom Murphy (knee) are on the injured list. Sabol has gone 6-for-12 with a double and a walk since being called up from Triple-A Sacramento last weekend.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Roster odds slimming
The signings of Matt Chapman and Jorge Soler in recent weeks likely reduce the chances of Sabol making the Giants' Opening Day roster.
ANALYSIS
Sabol needed to spend the full 2023 campaign in the majors after being selected in the Rule 5 Draft, but he can be freely sent to Triple-A Sacramento in 2024. The 26-year-old offers plenty of versatility as an option at catcher, first base and left field, but his .695 OPS last season likely won't be enough to stick in the majors. Sabol's roster chances could improve, however, if San Francisco trades from its glut of bench talent like Wilmer Flores or J.D. Davis.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
Sabol was the fourth overall pick during the Rule 5 draft in December, as the Giants picked him up (via trade with the Reds) after the Pirates declined to add him to the 40-man roster. He turned 25 years old in January and finished the 2022 campaign at the Triple-A level, where he had .296/.426/.543 slash line with five home runs in just 25 games. Sabol must stay on San Francisco's big-league roster for the full 2023 season in order for the organization to keep him. Joey Bart struggled in his first full-time action behind the plate last year following the retirement of Buster Posey, and it's hardly a guarantee he takes a notable step forward in 2023. Sabol should begin the season in a reserve role, and the Giants seem likely to add a veteran catcher for some stability, as it would be quite risky to have Sabol as the sole backup given he has yet to make his MLB debut.
